On Wednesday, July 10, poet and author Stefan Schmitzer will read from his book "loop garou. invokation".
The texts transport listeners into a universal space-time: among the invoked Olympian gods appears "Prof. Dr. Freud!”, Athena takes the form of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and tractors, strollers, and Michelangelo’s Moses become subjects of invocation—alongside GPS movement profiles and the benefits of an education system that remains widely accessible to those who, by chance, are not part of an ethnic minority.
Stefan Schmitzer, born in 1979, lives in Graz as an author, performer, and critic. In addition to his literary work, he has held various roles: literary curator at Forum Stadtpark, workshop leader for the Graz Youth Literature Workshop, board member of IG Kultur Steiermark, and editor for fixpoetry. Since 2020, he has led writing workshops for BÖS (Austrian Association of Writing Pedagogues) and currently serves as editor and managing director of perspektive. hefte für zeitgenössische literatur.
He has received numerous awards and scholarships, including:
Literary Advancement Award of the City of Graz, Manuskripte Promotion Prize, Book Prize from the Federal Chancellery for "boring river notes", Literature Scholarship from the City of Graz, Travel Grant from the Federal Chancellery, and the Gisela Scherer Fellowship from the Hausacher LeseLenz.
