Literary slow-motion donkey walk on gender-equitable cultural work
On Saturday, 21 October 2023, we are preparing the 2nd part of the future workshop Point of view / Point of you as a literary slow-motion donkey walk on the topic of women* in art and culture in the countryside. The POINT OF VIEW refers to the point of view, the perspective from which we look at the world. With the POINT OF YOU, the view of the individual person, we want to address the very personal viewpoints of women in art and cultural and creative work in the countryside.
During the literary slow-motion donkey hike, we will visit local actresses and artists and take your literary texts with us on our hike through the Pöllau Valley. These will serve as inspiration for discussions and new approaches as women* in art and culture. Afterwards, we will prepare a cosy meal together in the artists' workshop at Apfelschmiede 3er.
We invite you to bring along your favourite passages from books that inspire you or simply share your thoughts on books and stories that shed light on important aspects related to women* in culture. The stops on the walk:
START & meeting point:
We start at 10 am on the main square in Pöllau at Art Machine, the smallest art space in Eastern Styria - a converted cigarette machine with miniature art. We will then walk to the book box on the church wall, where we will discuss our stories and favourite passages for the walk. Kathrin Winkler from the Pöllau library will also provide feminist literature that we can take with us on the hike.
Where do we come from?
We visit ceramist Sieglinde Hofbauer in her studio, where she tells us about the stages in her life that eventually led her to settle in Pöllau as a freelance artist. This will be accompanied by storytelling or conversations about our paths that have brought us into the cultural sector.
What do we carry with us?
The 12er Haus is a self-managed platform for community activities in which committed citizens from Pöllau can participate on a voluntary basis. Here we would like to reflect on what we already have: what do we carry in our own backpacks and what do we want to take out and leave in the past?
Wohin gehen wir?
We will then head out into nature with the donkeys Coco and Faxe to share stories and favourite passages from the books we have brought with us at various stations. Together, we would like to look at our future in art and culture. How should things continue for women* in culture? What do we need and what do we want or need to change?
Afterwards, we will prepare a meal together with Carmen Dreier-Zwetti, a biologist, donkey whisperer, organic farmer, co-operative director and artist, on her farm, Apfelschmiede 3er und der Wunder-Werkstätte.
The two donkeys move at their own leisurely pace. The pure walking time is about 2 hours, which is why this hike is also suitable for children.
The slow-motion donkey walk is free of charge and is organised in cooperation with IG Kultur Steiermark and Women's Action Forum.
For all those interested from Graz and Gleisdorf, we offer a lift. Please register without obligation at office@styriansummerart.at or by telephone +43 664 540 4289 (Michaela Zingerle).
