AbgeschlossenExkursionen
Encounters between artists and cultural organizations in the Alps-Adriatic region and Serbia and the Western Balkans

From November 15 to 17, 2022, we went on a study trip to Novi Sad with partners from Styria, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, who each presented one or two cultural and artistic projects. In Novi Sad, we met Serbian partners who also presented up to four cultural projects. These cultural pitches were open to an interested audience.

Our aim was to use the project presentations to explore new forms of cooperation and, in line with the concept of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance, to sound out the values and opportunities for artists and cultural professionals. We also want to extend our cultural radius of action to the Western Balkans.

Participating cultural initiatives

STYRIA

Styrian Summer Art
The main projects of the independent art initiative Styrian Summer Art are workshops, master classes, studio workshops and cultural excursions in rural areas. Every year we have around 300 participants and artists in our workshops, which are led by professional artists.

Steirische Gesellschaft für Kulturpolitik
is one of the most important cultural policy hubs in Styria. In the areas of cultural, social and educational policy, it confronts many people with cultural and artistic phenomena, involves them in discussion processes and activates critical awareness.

GRRRLS
The Grrrls Kulturverein WLINT+ has been supporting female artists, musicians, instrumentalists and DJs since 2010. The primary goal of all our events and activities is to promote gender equality and the appreciation of WLINT+, queer-feminist music and art inspired by the movement for women's independence.

Mezzanin Theater
was founded in Graz in 1989 and works as an independent theater group that deals with social issues and questions as well as artistic working methods and processes across all disciplines. Mezzanin Theater works in an interdisciplinary, inclusive, international and innovative way. It seeks encounters on a national and international level, both as a collective of artists and as a cultural mediator. Through its multi-layered artistic work and its realization and presentation in unusual performance spaces, it appeals to almost all social classes and age groups. Together with the TaO! Theater am Ortweinplatz, the Mezzanin Theater Graz organizes the festival spleen*graz, an international festival for children and young people, and the regional festival KuKuK, which takes place every year in rural Styria.

VISIBLE
was founded in 2021 by Ute Liepold. As a theater director, she wanted to create a collaborative platform through which women* are encouraged to exchange ideas, form sustainable (political and artistic) networks and find new (artistic) formats. It also aims to initiate and implement specific artistic projects by women*, promote (gender) equality and counteract the marginalization of women in the arts and culture sector and in society as a whole. The organization is still very young, but a lot has already been achieved in a year and a half.

IG Kultur Steiermark
is the association of 170 independent cultural initiatives and centers in Styria. Its main aim is to improve working conditions for everyone involved in contemporary art and culture - from cultural professionals to volunteers - and to focus on contemporary cultural expressions and community-oriented initiatives.

SLOVENIEN

MIKK MURSKA SOBOTA
is a youth cultural center that creates the basis for the development of youth work, youth culture, information and informal education, art and multimedia, social inclusion, international work and entertainment. MIKK is the only public youth and cultural facility in the region where program activities take place every day. It is a kind of intergenerational place that invites young people between 15 and 30 years old, offers workshops for children between 7 and 14 years old, but also activities, especially round tables, lectures, seminars and cultural events for older people.

SERBIA

Kulturanova
initiates intercultural and intersectoral dialog in society and promotes the creativity of young people through arts education, the production of cultural content and the improvement of public policies in the field of culture and youth.

Cultural Centre LAB
is a unique place where professionals, creative groups and companies in the fields of creative industries, social entrepreneurship and culture come together and also experiment with self-employment. It is available to creative people who critically engage with their cultural environment and also for innovative social and cultural activities.

The gallery exhibits the most important modern and contemporary as well as emerging young artists. In 2013, the gallery launched an international festival for contemporary art.

Danube Dialogues
The gallery's vision is to be a regionally relevant gallery for contemporary art, focusing on presenting selected artists from the international art scene and promoting international collaboration and mobility of artists.

Drž’ ne daj
The Drž' ne daj troupe was founded in 2011 by three young actors and a director. The name of the troupe was taken from the play of the same name created by these young artists. The play was an unexpected success and the audience urged the young creatives to continue. These four creatives began to create their own works and were later joined by five more enthusiasts.

Šok zadruga (Shock Kooperative)
is a main project of the most famous art activist phenomenon that shaped Serbian art practice during the former Yugoslav war and post-war period - Led Art (1993-2001). The Multimedia Center Led Art (MMC LED ART) contextually renames the Art Clinic (2002-2012) as The Shock Cooperative. The Shock Cooperative redraws the assigned institutional and disciplinary framework, formulates new, "wild”, unconventional models of collaboration, replaces the periphery with the center, the basement with the public space. One of the most important activities of The Shock Cooperative is the activation and involvement of young artists, focusing on active work with the community in which they live and work.
