Workshop description:

In this workshop we will learn the technical and artistic handling of the chainsaw by making a sculpture.

On the first day we will choose a piece of wood (about one meter high) and prepare our workplace. We will borrow equipment (small chainsaws with carving blade) and protective equipment if we cannot provide it ourselves. We also discuss the sketches and ideas and work on a small clay model to transfer the proportions better to the wood. This is one of the most important techniques in sculpture and trains our three-dimensional imagination before the sculpture can be created from the wood.

To take away any fear of the tool, there are plenty of technical introductions and safety checks on the chainsaw. After a total of three working days, we will have completed our sculpture and present it to the group before each participant can take their work home with them.

No previous knowledge is necessary. Other tools that are needed (flammers, angle grinders, etc.) can be taken along as desired. A communal motor oil and petrol station for the saws will be provided in the studio.

Please bring your own:

If possible, your own chainsaw incl. sharpening tool (must be technically in order, technical knowledge of your own equipment is assumed)Helmet and ear protection, safety goggles, cut protection trousers and possibly a cut protection top. (Chainsaws and cut protection equipment can be borrowed for a fee): In any case: work gloves, sturdy shoes (safety shoes), chalks (wax or blackboard chalk), rolling meter or other measuring device, idea for your own sculpture

Material contribution: One larch trunk with a height of one meter (diameter still unknown) per participant, petrol and oil canisters are provided. Chainsaws and protective equipment as required; € 50 per log, hire fee for chainsaw and cut protection equipment.

Price:

€ 500,- (excl. Material- und Maschinenkosten)
