Workshop description:
Textile Memories - Visible Mending: Creating textiles sustainably into individual mementos and artistic favourites.
In this workshop we will take an intensive look at a wide variety of embroidery and darning techniques, including Japanese Sashiko, Boro, as well as Swiss and Scottish Darning. We will learn and apply the most suitable techniques for each piece. The history of the textile will also be included in our repairs, both with needle and thread and in words. In this way, we will succeed in combining traditional handicraft techniques with artistic, contemporary interpretation and the experimental use of textile materials.
Visible Mending is currently on everyone's lips, and with good reason. After all, it can make clothes wearable for longer and contribute to the reduction of mass and cheap production in the fashion industry. It also demonstrates an attitude that values and even emphasises signs of wear, imperfection and life.
In Japan, this is practised as Wabi Sabi and Mottainai, the philosophy of the natural and simple, as well as the regret that something is wasted.

Please bring along:
Clothing, textiles that you want to darn, embroider and redesign. Jeans are best suited for Sashiko and Boro, especially for beginners. A maximum of 3 pieces that are particularly important to you.

Scissors, cutting knife, triangle, circle templates
Sewing or darning needles with and without point, pins
Fine crochet hooks and thin, short knitting needles
